Day 1: Medellín City Tour

Explore the “City of Eternal Spring”, Medellin, in just 4 hours. Visit downtown Medellin and listen to local musicians while visiting the Parque Berrio. Stroll through the hustle and bustle of the city centre to the famous Botero Plaza with an exhibition of the Colombian artist Fernando Botero. Take the Metro Cable up to Santo Domingo, which was once a notorious area of gang violence in Medellin. The cable car was constructed to make the inner city more accessible to people from the outskirts and allows visitors a glimpse into the lives of the marginalized population. Learn more about the transformation of Medellin from one of the most dangerous cities in the world into a fascinating melting pot of cultures.

Day 2: From Medellín to the Coffee Region & Visit of an Orchid Farm (B, L)

In the morning we leave the city of Medellín and make our way to the coffee region of Colombia. Driving through the lush hills for about four hours we reach the charming finca of orchids. Explore the biggest private orchid collection of Colombia. The owners dedicated their lives to collect and cultivate an immense variety of orchids. Walk through the beautiful garden passing native forests and enjoy a traditional lunch before we continue our journey. After about two more hours we reach our hotel in the coffee region.

Day 3: Coffee & Barista Workshop La Morelia (B)

Immerse yourself in the interesting history of the Colombian coffee culture. Explore the coffee plantation, get to know the numerous types and the variety of Colombian coffee and visit cultural laboratories. Observe the different steps of coffee production. In the end, try the delicious hot drink during a coffee tasting and learn how to prepare an excellent cup of coffee during professional a barista workshop.

Day 4: Cocora Valley & Salento (B, L)

Today you travel to Salento, oldest municipality of the coffee region, famous for the charming traditional architecture and beautiful handicrafts. Discover the village and learn more about coffee in the Café of Jesus Martin. Try some of the coffee specialties and a delicious piece of cake before we continue to the famous Cocora Valley. Walk through this lush valley and admire the impressive wax palms. The hilly landscape full of tall, slim palms is an unforgettable sight.

Southwest Antioquia – Coffee Culture & Andean Nature

Southwest Antioquia – full of green valleys, mountains and rivers – is one of Colombia’s most beautiful landscapes. Day 1: Day on a Colombian Coffee Farm (L, D)

A scenic ride through lush green mountains takes you into the coffee region of Antioquia´s Southwest. After two hours you reach the Andean village of Fredonia located high up in the hills surrounded by coffee- and fruit plantations. On less than three hectares Don Octavio Acevedo and his family produce their own coffee brand and give us the unique opportunity to observe the whole coffee processing from the plant to the cup. Before lunch you stroll through the coffee fields, learning more about growing and collecting the coffee beans. After a traditional countryside lunch you get an insight of the roasting process and furthermore about the best way to prepare the coffee. Head on to the idyllic Andean coffee village of Támesis located high above the Cauca River Valley. Spend the night in Támesis.

Day 2: Ancient Pre-Hispanic Petroglyphs & Cultural Heritage Village Jericó (B, L, D)

Támesis is known as one of the places with the greatest density of indigenous pre-Hispanic petroglyphs in Colombia. After visiting the archaeological museum, a local guide will lead you through a tour of the surroundings of Támesis to visit the archaeological sites in the region. Observe different types of petroglyphs and travel back into the ancient times before the Spanish invaders came to Colombia. After lunch, travel to the precious coffee village of Jericó – already listed as Cultural Heritage Village with the 16 most beautiful chapels of Antioquia in its town centre. Take a guided tour of the historic centre with its traditional facades and the local “carriel” workshops. These special leather accessories are handmade in Jericó and quiet the best place to get a different Colombian gift for family and friends. Try the famous “Luisa” pastries and unique cardamom sweets of the region. Spend the night in the historic centre of Jericó.

Day 3: Antioquia´s green heart – Jardín – Cultural Heritage Village (B, L, D)

This morning hit the road towards Jardín, a beautiful village in Antioquia and surrounded by coffee and banana plantations. Jardín is famous for its colourful houses and balconies and has already been declared a national monument. Visit the local museum where the history of the colonization of the region comes to life. After a sample of Doña Mariela’s prize-winning sweets, you will take the traditional cable car to the other side of the valley and walk back to the village Jardín. Experience the unique atmosphere on the main square and feel the serenity of Colombia´s coffee region. Spend the night in a family-run hotel close to the main square.

Day 4: Colonial Colombia – Santa Fé de Antioquia – Cultural Heritage Village (B, L, D)

On the last day, travel along the Cauca River banks into the Western highlands of Antioquia to explore the colonial treasure of the region: Santa Fé de Antioquia. Founded in 1541 on the Western bank of the Cauca River, it became the first capital of Antioquia in 1584. Continue with a guided tour around the city which was declared a national cultural heritage thanks to its colonial architecture with many historic churches, plazas and palaces. Visit the famous “Puente del Occidente”, the longest suspension bridge in Colombia before returning to Medellín in the evening hours.

Day 1: Nature Reserve Río Claro (L, D)

Explore the fascinating landscape of the mountains of the Eastern Andes. The unique Nature Reserve Rio Claro has been voted one the most beautiful river sceneries in Colombia. Its crystal clear water and the riverbed of marble meander through the narrow canyon lush with tropical rain forest. Enjoy the nature of the beautiful canyons surrounding “Rio Claro”. You have plenty of time to relax on the stunning beaches of the Claro River. On a zip lining circuit with several stations you can enjoy a bird´s eye view of the river and the trees. You will spend the night at El Refugio eco-lodge in the Río Claro nature reserve.

Day 2: Community Tourism – Artisanal chocolate & Biodiversity of Antioquia (B, L, D)

Today you travel to the idyllic village of San Luís to visit a local community project. The region of the Eastern Highlands was a related to Coca production due to the internal conflict. After the war the local farmer communities received training and support by international NGO´s to replace the Coca fields by legal crops. Nowadays the villagers produce cacao on organic farms. Learn more about the most typical Colombian product and artesanal chocolate production. After a refreshing bath in the impressive tropical river pools experience the impressive biodiversity of the regional flora and fauna visiting a butterfly garden and a snake house at El Faisán Foundation. The family run NGO wants to improve the awareness of the local population about the fragile tropical eco-systems. Without any governmental support they do everything to safe the species of endemic amphibians of the region. The tropical part of the Eastern Highlands of Antioquia is listed as a high biodiversity hotspot. Spend the night at a comfortable eco-lodge with awesome views.

Day 3: Sugarcane & tropical Andean landscapes (L, D)

The topic of the day is sugarcane. As a sugarcane growing country Colombia represents the main producer of Panela – unrefined raw sugarcane – in South America. On more than 200,000 hectares about 350,000 farmers are living of sugarcane crops and of processing Panela. The main use of Panela in Colombia is the so-called “agua panela” which is one of the most consumed beverages of the country. Visit a sugarcane farm and stroll through the sugarcane fields and learn more about its particular uses in Colombia. Later on relax at the Jacuzzi or natural swimming pool of the hotel before travelling back to Medellín.

This tour takes you to the green balcony of Medellín’s coffee region located above the Cauca River valley. Day 2 : Hike in the Cloud Forest of the “San Antonio” Nature Reserve (B, L, D)

On this day you go hiking through the mysterious cloud forests of the “San Antonio” nature reserve which is located in the mountains above Támesis. A pre-Hispanic stone path will take you higher and higher into the impressive mountain rain forest. A guide familiar with the place will show you waterfalls hidden within the rocks, underground rivers, caves, and the most spectacular viewpoints. In the late afternoon return to the village of Támesis.

Day 3: Pre-Hispanic Petroglyph Tour (B, L)

In the morning a guide will lead you through a tour of the surroundings of Támesis to visit the archaeological sites in the region. Day 1: From Medellín to Jardín (L, D)

A scenic ride through the lush green mountains takes you into the coffee growing region of Antioquia’s Southwest. On the way to Jardín you will see the brightly painted “Chivas” (the traditional public buses of the region) at the square in the small town of Andes. The village tour starts at the museum Clara Rojas, where the history of the region comes to life. After tasting the award-winning sweets of Doña Mariela, a traditional cable car takes you to the other side of the valley and you enjoy a nice walk back to the village centre.
Spend the night in an idyllic hotel in the historic centre of Jardín.

Day 2: Visit of a traditional coffee farm (B, L)

At the coffee farm “Los Angeles” you learn more about coffee. Here you can observe and will be explained the whole process from the cultivation of coffee plants to your cup of coffee. The farm is situated in an idyllic unique location and offers spectacular views over the endless green hills of the coffee zone of Antioquia. In the afternoon you return to Medellín and reach the hotel in the evening.
