Day 1: History of Transformation

20 years ago, Medellín was one of the most dangerous cities in the world. Back in the early 90s, when the hunt for Pablo Escobar took place, the head of Medellín’s drug cartel was at its peak. Thus the reign of “El Patrón” came to its end. Until the turn of the millennium the struggle about Escobar’s successor continued, but since 2002 Medellín began to change. Local politicians started to invest heavily in infrastructure and public education. Today the “City of Eternal Spring” is one of the most innovative metropolises in the world.
Join us on an exciting tour through the history and present of Medellín and learn more about the transformation of this fascinating metropolis.

Day 2: Guatapé & Piedra del Peñol (B,L)

The Peñol Boulder is one of the most spectacular destinations in the surrounding area of Medellín. The 200-meter-high monolith can be climbed through a staircase of 740 steps. Enjoy breath-taking views over the stunning surroundings full of green mountains and blue lakes. The village of Guatapé is famous for its church and its beautiful, colourful paintings that decorate the houses of the village.
On this day trip we will take you on a scenic drive through the Eastern Highlands of Antioquia. You can climb the Peñol Boulder, enjoy a delicious typical Colombian lunch on the waterfront of the Guatapé reservoir, explore the lake on a boat ride and take time to stroll and relax.

Day 3: Santa Fé de Antioquia – Hidden Colonial Treasure (B,L)

Santa Fé de Antioquia is located at only a two-hour ride through the scenic mountainous landscapes of the Western Andean highlands from Medellín. The town was founded in 1541 on the Western bank of the Cauca River and became the first capital of Antioquia in 1584. It is declared a Cultural Heritage Village thanks to its colonial architecture with many historic churches, plazas and palaces.

Furthermore, you visit the famous Puente del Occidente across the Cauca River, which is one of the longest and oldest suspension bridges in Latin America.

We invite you to explore the cultural treasures of Santa Fé de Antioquia, take a ride through Latin America’s longest tunnel and visit the well-known bridge “Puente del Occidente”. Look forward to experiencing stunning landscapes, typical Colombian food and a relaxing day on the countryside. In the evening you return to Medellín.

Day 1: Graffiti Experience
Upon your arrival at the airport Jose Maria Cordova of Medellin, there will be a driver awaiting you to bring you to your hotel. The City of Medellín offers a great variety of urban arts due to the city’s transformation over the last 20 years. Nowadays, the city is so full of countless street art expressions that the local authorities declared urban art a cultural landmark of Medellín. Graffiti is not only about strong artistic and cultural elements, it is a way of political expression. See the graffiti of the Comuna 13 guided by some of the local artists themselves. This tour gives you an insight on history and daily life in this area and the importance of street art for social communication and identity.

Day 2: Flower Farm & City Tour (B,L)
This tour combines a visit of traditional flower farm in Santa Elena with a Medellín city-tour, including a stunning cable-car ride into town. Travel to the flower village of Santa Elena located in the highlands above Medellín. Growing flowers has a long tradition in the region and visiting a flower farm to get to know the so-called “Silletero” culture is a unique experience. Afterwards, take the cable car to Medellín`s Santo Domingo neighborhood to start your city-tour. The cable car was constructed to make the inner city more accessible to people from the outskirts, and allows visitors a glimpse into the lives of the marginalized population. Visit downtown Medellín and listen to local musicians and the traditional “Guasca” music while visiting the Parque Berrío. Stroll through the hustle and bustle of downtown Medellín to the famous Botero Plaza with an exhibition of the Colombian artist Fernando Botero, whose sculptures have become a landmark of the city.

Day 3: Local Market Experience (B)
Explore the centre of Medellín and visit one of its typical local market areas. Stroll through stalls brimming with fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers at Medellín’s local market “La Minorista”. Try exotic fruits and interact with the local vendors bargaining for a good price. Explore the world of the local markets and discover the tiny corridors full of flavors and exotic products and typical Colombian food. You will taste a variety of delicious tropical fruits and finish your trip with a 100% pure fruit juice. After this exciting insider’s trip through the authentic centre of Medellin, you will have free time to explore the city on your own.
