Day 1: The Tatacoa Desert

Start your adventure in Neiva, located in Southern Colombia. After your arrival you will travel to the Tatacoa Desert with its unique scenery. The Tatacoa Desert is the second largest in Colombia and fascinates with stunning ochre and ash-colored stone formations. This impressive environment was created by processes of erosion which lasted hundreds of years. Enjoy a walk through the desert before you return to Neiva.

Day 2: Hot Springs of Rivera (B)

After breakfast we drive along the Magdalena River and stop in Rivera. Here you can enjoy the morning at the hot springs of Rivera, a beautiful natural pool surrounded by stunning nature. After lunch, we travel to the idyllic town of San Agustin and enjoy a ride through the impressive Andean scenery.

Day 3: Visit of the Archaeological Park in San Agustin (B)

Today we visit the impressive archaeological park of San Agustin. Get to know the pre-Colombian culture: Explore the artificially erected grave mounds which are connected to each other by raised paths. Learn about the history of the native communities and hear about the death rituals they practiced for their chiefs and warriors, entombing them behind archaeological figures with all their belongings. The figures show different symbols carved into stone and give an insight into the pre-Colombian culture.

Day 4: Crossing the Andean Mountains to Tierradentro (B)

After breakfast, we leave San Agustin to cross the Andean mountain range. You travel through the National Park Pucare and pass Popayan until you reach the archaeological park of Tierradentro. Enjoy a tour though the park and discover the archaeological remains.

Day 5: Exploring Popayán (B)

In the morning we continue our journey to the colonial city of Popayan. Popayan has a lot of cultural treasures to offer, from beautiful churches to colonial architecture. On a city tour, learn about the history and the importance of the city since the colonial time. It was founded in 1537, and was once one of the most important cities of Colombia, due to its strategic location on the way to Ecuador.

Immerse yourself in the pre-Colombian culture in the archaeological sites of San Agustín and its surroundings and explore the second largest desert of Colombia. San Agustin is known for its historic landmarks and cultural treasures represented in the archaeological park and museums. It is situated in the department of Huila which is known for its rice production and its large tracts of land. The department is located in the Eastern Cordillera and the most important river of Colombia – the Rio Magdalena – originates in this department.

Day 1: The Tatacoa Desert

Day 2: Visit of the Archaeological Park in San Agustin (B)

Today we visit one of the most important cultural heritages of the Colombian Andes. We take a ride through the impressive Andean scenery and arrive at the idyllic town of San Agustin. On a visit to the archaeological park, get to know the pre-Colombian culture: Explore the artificially erected grave mounds which are connected to each other by raised paths. Learn about the history of the native communities who lived in this region, and hear about the death rituals they practiced for their chiefs and warriors, entombing them behind archaeological figures with all their belongings. The figures show different symbols which are carved into stone and give an insight of the pre-Colombian culture. Outstanding are the figures at the edge of the Magdalena River and the “lavapatas” ceremonial well.

Day 3: Jeep Tour (B)

After breakfast, get on a jeep to explore the surroundings of San Agustin. We will visit the Isnos Village where two other rich archaeological parks are located. After exploring the cultural heritage of Isnos, we will continue crossing the fascinating Andean Landscapes. We will stop at the beautiful waterfalls of Bordones and Mortino and follow the lines of the Magdalena River. After this adventurous ride, return to San Agustin in the afternoon.

Day 4: From San Agustin to Neiva (B)

After breakfast we will bring you to the airport of Neiva, where you take you flight out.

Popayan & National Park Purace

3 Days / 2 Nights

Discover the magic of the “White City” and hike through one of Colombia’s most beautiful national parks! In Popayan, also known as the “White City” due to its houses with white facades and many magnificent churches you will explore the historic center considered as one of the most beautiful and best preserved ones in Latin America. Since colonial times, Popayan has been the religious center on the road from Cartagena to Quito in Ecuador. It was home to many poets, presidents and writers from Colombia.

During your hike within a unique flora and fauna in the National Park Pucaré, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the hot springs of this volcanic landscape. The National Park is about 2500 to 4800 about sea level and is home of the unique “frailejones” and about 200 different orchids. If your lucky you can even admire the majestic Condor.

Day 1: Arrival in Popayan

Arrival at the airport of Popayán and transfer to the Hotel. In the afternoon you will learn about the history and the importance of Popayan since the colonial time. The city was founded in 1537, and was once one of the most important cities of Colombia, due to its strategic location on the way to Quito, Ecuador. Popayan has a lot of cultural treasures to offer, from beautiful churches to
colonial arquitecture. One highlight are the famous white house facades.

Day 2: Hiking in the Puracé National Park (B)

Early in the morning you will start your half an hour ride to the beautiful Puracé National Park. Enjoy hiking through the amazing landscapes of the Andes and try to spot one of the majestic condors. You will be astonished by volcanoes, many lakes, unusual flora and fauna and a friendly Indian population. In the afternoon you can relax in one of numerous sulfur hot springs before returning to Popayan.

Day 3: Leaving Popayan (B)

After breakfast you leave Popayan to your next destination.
